Revolutionizing Seating: The Zeph Side Chair

Post Image

Berlin-based Studio 7.5, in collaboration with Herman Miller, introduces the Zeph Side Chair, a colorful and ergonomic addition to their seating collection. Designed for comfort and versatility, this chair is ideal for various settings, including workspaces, hospitality environments, and educational institutions.

Furniture Trends lie at the heart of the Zeph Side Chair, offering a natural recline that adapts to the user’s movements. This feature, previously lacking in four-legged side chairs, enhances comfort and support. The design team, including Burkhard Schmitz, Carola Zwick, and Roland Zwick, focused on creating a dynamic seating solution that aligns with the body’s natural movements.

The Zeph Side Chair features a one-piece seat and a flexible back, providing a seamless blend of style and functionality. The chair’s design process involved extensive experimentation with 3D-printed kinematic plastic mono-shell forms, leading to a chair that animates with the user’s movements. This dynamic design approach ensures that the chair supports the user’s well-being while offering an elegant and effortless look.

One of the main challenges faced by the design team was creating a four-legged chair base that could support the flexible shell without compromising structural integrity. The result is a chair that moves with the user, contributing to a comfortable and ergonomic seating experience.

In addition to its innovative design, the Zeph Side Chair is part of Herman Miller’s sustainability efforts. The chair is made with fewer components and offers the option to add a 3D-Knit seat cover, which uses 50 percent post-consumer recycled content. This sustainable approach reduces fabric waste and allows for easy updates with a variety of available colors.

Overall, the Zeph Side Chair exemplifies Furniture Trends that prioritize comfort, sustainability, and style. Its dynamic seating experience and colorful aesthetic make it a versatile choice for modern environments.
