Miriam Barrio Studio Crafts a Barcelona Apartment with Hidden Marvels
Barcelona-based Miriam Barrio Studio has reimagined apartment living with a design that marries Japanese minimalism and Mediterranean charm. Featuring concealed rooms, multifunctional spaces, and eco-friendly materials, this apartment encapsulates both style and sustainability.
Highlights
Design Philosophy
Guided by the Japanese principle of Kanso, which emphasizes simplicity and eliminating clutter, the studio has crafted a serene yet functional space.
Open-Plan Layout
The kitchen-living area serves multiple functions, including a kitchen island doubling as a dining table. A sofa converts into a futon, enhancing adaptability.
Concealed Features
Sliding concertina doors partition the main living area from the bedroom. A hidden bookcase door reveals a corridor leading to private spaces, including the bathroom and dressing room, adding an element of mystery.
Natural and Local Materials
With oak furnishings and rattan-weave details, the design prioritizes sustainability. These materials are recyclable and biodegradable.
Soft Aesthetic
A neutral palette of whites and beiges complements the natural light streaming through large windows, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.
Unique Elements
- Hidden Bookcase Door: A playful secret leading to private areas.
- Sustainability: Use of eco-conscious materials and maximized natural lighting.
- Cultural Fusion: A seamless blend of Mediterranean warmth with Japanese minimalist aesthetics.
