Glas Italia’s 2024 Collection Unveiled

Post Image

Glas Italia has once again set the bar high with its innovative 2024 collection, featuring designs from renowned creators like Michael Anastassiades, Piero Lissoni, Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola, and Yabu Pushelberg. This collection is a testament to the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of glass design, transforming and reinterpreting the material to drive the concept of each project.

Michael Anastassiades makes his debut with Glas Italia through the Kazimir Console and Kazimir Table. Inspired by Kazimir Severinovič Malevič’s geometric abstractionism, these pieces feature overlapping sheets of double-sided, green acid-etched glass or laminated double-sided acid-etched extralight glass. The special UV bonding method keeps the angles sharp and seams invisible, showcasing Glas Italia’s expertise in custom products studio design.

Piero Lissoni’s contributions to the 2024 catalog include the Ratio Desk and Obliquo Open Storage Units. The Ratio Desk is a petite yet impactful piece made from 10mm tempered smoked glass and black Ash. The design balances its compartmentalized left side with a solid matte black Ash leg, highlighting Lissoni’s precision and attention to detail. The Obliquo units utilize 4 and 6mm laminated glass with a polished ground edge, offering a sleek storage solution that reflects Glas Italia’s role as a leading multidisciplinary design studio.

Philippe Starck’s creations for Glas Italia bring a sense of experimentation and sophistication. The Compression Dining Table marries glass, solid wood, and chromed steel in an interlocking system that exudes character. Starck’s Crystal Stool, made entirely of UV-bonded 4mm tempered transparent glass, is a testament to the strength and stability achievable with innovative manufacturing processes. The Menteur Mirrors use complex curvature techniques to create concave or convex reflections, adding a fun yet practical element to the collection.

Patricia Urquiola continues her exploration of recycled glass with the Babar Tables. These high and low tables are crafted from 100% recycled glass grit and shards, each piece boasting unique irregular surfaces. The Remis low table and console use a mosaic of cast glass tiles to create an illusion of perspective, further emphasizing Urquiola’s playful approach to design. These pieces exemplify the current Furniture Trends that prioritize sustainability and innovative use of materials.

The 2024 collection concludes with Yabu Pushelberg’s extension of the Ollie Collection, featuring a console with a curved glass storage shelf and a glossy purple-lilac lacquered drawer. This piece, along with the previously released coffee table and totem bookcase, demonstrates the designers’ ability to blend aesthetic appeal with functional design.
